Swinburne Window

Produced for Swinburne University at M&C Saatchi Melbourne. An interactive installation sponsored by Westpac with a retail window.

Animated fish interact and play with pedestrians in real time to promote Swinburne's Environmental management courses. Initially technologically challenging, the window was overwhelmingly popular with Swinburne, Westpac and branch customers.

Cameras inside the window allowed the custom computer code to track the movements of the passing crowd. This information was fed to a simple swarm algorithm which gave the fish organic and interactive movement as they swam to follow people as they walked by.
